About

Classically trained as a pianist and awarded c-organist, Dennis Tjiok studies composition with Laura Bowler and Gary Carpenter at the world-renowned Royal Northern College of Music.

As composer and performer he has participated in projects ranging from musical theatre to scoring films and games, besides conducting and performing classical music, as well as Rock, Pop and Jazz. From his school years on he has been actively writing original music, joining chamber music groups, bands and performing as a soloist. He has won competitions for solo piano, chamber music, as well as the EHF 2010 award for composition.

James Horner (MDW, Wien 2013), Eric Whitacre (RCM, London 2014), Brendan Dougherty (Frankfurt 2015), Conrad Pope & Nan Schwartz (HMW, Baden 2016), Judith Weir (BBC Maida Vale Studios, London 2017) and Tansy Davies (RNCM, Manchester 2016).

 

 

Recently Significant Collaborations:

Orchestral arrangements for Bill Laurance at the Bill Laurance Festival 2017, Manchester.

Original score for the science-fiction thriller I Am Flesh, directed by Jack Silverwood and produced by Fraggell Productions. MSA Film Festival 2017 nomination for Best Original Score, and winner of Best Sound, Best Camera Operation and Best Screenplay.

Art song collaboration with author Alan Gillot. Premier of The Setting Sun at Leeds Lieder Festival 2017, performed by singer Edward Robinson and pianist Alexey Pudinov.

Internship at Crytek Frankfurt on the Sony VR production of Robinson. Assisting the audio team under Florian Füsslin and Simon Pressey with composition, sound design and music implementation.

Franz Kafka´s The Trial (composition & sound design, directed by Craig Sanders), commissioned by People Zoo Productions as part of the Greater Manchester Fringe, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2016 and the Manchester Push Festival 2017. The Play was awarded Best Newcomer, Best Adaption and the Manchester Theatre Award 2017.

Working together with German film composer Stefan Ziethen on the motion picture soundtrack of Nice Places to Die, commissioned by the WDR for cinema and TV in 2015.

New musical theatre works Alice in Wonderland (composer, directed by Michael Gonszar, 2015) and The Canterville Ghost (composer & producer, directed by Lea Dunbar, 2015) all performed at the English Theatre Frankfurt, Germany.

Readings and theme soirées with the actors Wolfram Koch, Kevin Oakes and Katharina Bach.

Winning the International Competition for Piano Ensembles Marktoberdorf 2014 and performing concerts and with award-winning pianist Alexey Pudinov.
